History
Bristol was founded by Clinton Pearson, who had co-founded Pearson Yachts with his cousin Everett. After leaving Pearson in 1964, Clinton bought the troubled Sailstar sailboat maker and moved into the historic Herreshoff boatyard in Bristol, Rhode Island, renaming the company Bristol Yacht Company in 1966. Its first boat was the Carl Alberg-designed Bristol 27. The company closed due to bankruptcy in 1997.
